Human-Robot Collaboration & Safety Standards
May 11, 2025 · 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM @ Online event
Description
The session on “Human-Robot Collaboration & Safety Standards”, organized by Y2NPro 2025 under IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka, will take place on the 11th of May 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM IST, via Zoom. As part of the Robotics in Industry 4.0: Automation and Smart Manufacturing Workshop Series, this session will explore the critical intersection of collaborative robotics and safety frameworks in modern industrial environments. The session will be led by Prof. Buddhika Jayasekara, a seasoned academic and researcher from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, known for his contributions in Robotics, Automation, and Embedded Systems. During the session, Prof. Jayasekara will examine how robots and humans can safely and efficiently share workspaces in manufacturing and assembly processes. Key discussion points will include the principles of human-robot collaboration (HRC), the design of safe robotic systems, and international safety standards such as ISO 10218 and ISO/TS 15066 that govern collaborative robotic operations. The session will also touch on real-world implementations and risk mitigation strategies essential for ensuring worker safety while maintaining productivity and flexibility in automated systems. Participants will gain valuable insights into the engineering and regulatory considerations that guide the development of collaborative robotics in Industry 4.0. An open Q&A segment will provide attendees the chance to engage directly with the speaker, encouraging dialogue on emerging trends, challenges, and best practices in the field. Hosted by IEEE YP Sri Lanka, this session will serve as a vital learning opportunity for professionals and students interested in the future of robotics and the evolving standards that ensure safe and effective human-robot interaction in industrial settings.
