The workshop was designed to introduce engineering undergraduates (specially those who are in their first and second years) to the foundational concepts of networking and network protocols, along with emerging trends in modern communication technologies. Event Objectives and Goals: · Introduce freshers to the basics of computer networks and networking protocols · Strengthen engineering undergraduates' knowledge in networking and network protocols. · Help students explore emerging trends in communication technologies. · Enhance students' knowledge and prepare them for future academic and professional endeavors in networking. Process Summary The Netwiz 1.0 Theory Workshop was held on 02 nd April 2025 from 02.30 PM to 5.30 PM at the new computer center of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. It was a successful workshop with 215 participants. The workshop commenced with an opening address by the Chair of the Communication Society , who provided a brief introduction to the participants and extended a warm welcome to the guest speaker and all attendees. The lecture commenced with an introductory overview of networking, establishing the foundational context. This was followed by a comprehensive explanation of core networking concepts during the initial segment. The latter part of the session focused on a discussion of network protocols, concluding with a brief introduction to practical applications and relevant software tools. To reinforce participant learning, quiz 01 was conducted through the platform “ kahoot.it”, in the middle of the session. This quiz, which lasted approximately 10 minutes, was also followed by a discussion on the questions to facilitate better understanding. At the end of the session, another 10-minute quiz was administered to further consolidate the knowledge shared throughout the workshop.
