Robot Kinematics & Control Systems
May 3, 2025 · 2:30 AM - 4:30 AM @ Online event
Description
The “Robot Kinematics and Control Systems” awareness session, organized by IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka, was held on the 3rd of May 2025 via Zoom, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM IST. As part of the ongoing Robotics in Industry 4.0: Automation and Smart Manufacturing Workshop Series, this session provided an in-depth look into the fundamental principles and real-world applications of robotic motion and control within smart industrial environments. The session was conducted by Prof. A.M. Harsha S. Abeykoon, an experienced academic and researcher in robotics and motion control. Focusing on the practical and theoretical aspects of robot kinematics, Prof. Abeykoon explored how control systems govern the precise and coordinated movements of robotic arms and mobile platforms, which are central to automation in Industry 4.0. Key topics included forward and inverse kinematics, dynamic modeling, feedback control mechanisms, and their integration with intelligent systems for enhanced decision-making and adaptability in robotics. Prof. Abeykoon also demonstrated how these concepts are applied in diverse areas such as teleoperation, rehabilitation, and manufacturing, emphasizing the importance of high-fidelity control and responsiveness in real-world tasks. Attendees gained valuable insights into the challenges and solutions associated with designing robust control architectures for collaborative and autonomous robots. The session encouraged interactive learning through a dedicated Q&A segment, allowing participants to clarify doubts and engage with the speaker on advanced topics. Seamlessly hosted by IEEE YP Sri Lanka, the event reinforced the organization’s mission to empower young professionals with industry-relevant knowledge and foster innovation in the robotics domain. Overall, the session significantly deepened participants' understanding of robotic motion and control systems, showcasing their indispensable role in enabling intelligent automation within Industry 4.0 ecosystems.
