DesignHer 1.0 DesignHer 1.0 is an empowering initiative by the Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of the IEEE Student Branch, University of Ruhuna, designed to uplift aspiring female designers and developers by equipping them with practical knowledge in, UI/UX design Frontend development Backend development. The event comprised three structured workshops and a female-only competition, nurturing creativity, skill-building, and hands-on experience. The inaugural session of the DesignHer 1.0 series, held on May 4th, 2025, focused on building a solid foundation in UI/UX design. Conducted virtually via Zoom, the session attracted over 130 enthusiastic participants, including both IEEE and non-IEEE members. Led by Mr. Surendra Jayawardhana , a seasoned UI/UX Designer at Creative Software, the workshop introduced participants to the fundamentals of Figma—a leading interface design tool. Topics included frames, components, design principles, and prototyping interactive mockups. Attendees also explored how to develop consistent design systems using reusable styles and components. The session was marked by vibrant interaction, live Q&A segments, and hands-on demonstrations, creating an engaging and educational experience that left participants inspired and equipped with practical design skills. The top-ranked participants from the quiz conducted during the sessions were recognized for their outstanding performance and were offered certificates as a token of appreciation and encouragement for their active engagement and learning.
