The IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa, in collaboration with the Electrical, Electronic, and Telecommunication Engineering Sectional Committee of IESL, successfully hosted a public lecture on "Technological, Regulatory, and Organizational Elements of Nuclear Energy" . Held on June 2, 2025 , from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Wimalasurendra Auditorium, IESL , the session featured Dr. Sunil Weerakkody , Senior Level Advisor in Probabilistic Risk Assessment at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) , as the keynote speaker. Dr. Weerakkody shared in-depth insights into the evolving landscape of nuclear energy, with a special focus on the interplay between technology, regulatory frameworks, and organizational infrastructure. The lecture highlighted real-world applications of probabilistic risk assessment in ensuring the safety and reliability of nuclear power systems, along with international best practices and regulatory standards. The event attracted students, academics, and professionals passionate about nuclear technology and energy systems, providing a platform for knowledge sharing and professional development
