SolidX Industry Visit

June 27, 2025 · 4:30 AM - 10:30 AM @ Kadawatha, 588/1/A

Description

The industry visit to ACECAM Pvt Ltd, organized by the IEEE Industrial Applications Society (IAS) Student Branch Chapter of SLTC, was a highly enriching and hands-on learning experience for undergraduate engineering students at SLTC. Held on the 27th of June 2025, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the visit was designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world industrial practice. It provided students with direct exposure to professional design tools, workflows, and the dynamic environment of a leading design and manufacturing firm. The visit commenced with a warm and cordial welcome address by representatives of ACECAM Pvt Ltd. To add a hospitable touch to the occasion, snacks were served, creating a comfortable and engaging atmosphere from the very beginning. Following this, a brief introduction to the company was presented, outlining its operational scope, technological focus, and role in the engineering industry. This provided participants with a contextual foundation for the sessions that followed. A total of 53 students participated in the visit, which was carefully structured into two interactive and informative sessions to ensure personalized engagement. Session 1, held from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, focused on 3D designing and modeling using SolidWorks, a leading computer-aided design (CAD) software widely utilized in mechanical engineering and product development. Students were introduced to modeling techniques, part design, and assembly creation, gaining insight into how 3D design plays a vital role in the product development lifecycle. After a lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, the program resumed with Session 2, which ran from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. This session explored 2D designing and drafting using ZWCAD, a professional-grade software for 2D CAD applications. Through hands-on demonstrations and guided interaction, students learned about technical drawing standards, layout techniques, and drafting workflows, allowing them to appreciate the distinct roles of both 2D and 3D tools in industrial design processes. Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to observe real-time software demonstrations, interact directly with industry professionals, and gain valuable insight into ACECAM's design-to-production workflow. The sessions emphasized the significance of precision, efficiency, and innovation in engineering design and motivated students to align their academic learning with modern industry expectations and standards. Toward the end of the visit, a technical quiz was conducted to test students' understanding of the tools and concepts introduced during the sessions. The top three performers were awarded gifts, recognizing their active engagement and encouraging healthy academic competition. Following this, a token of appreciation was presented by the SolidX organizing committee to ACECAM Pvt Ltd as a gesture of gratitude for their time, support, and collaboration. A vote of thanks was then delivered by the Secretary of SolidX, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the host company and acknowledging the efforts of all those involved in making the visit a success. To commemorate the occasion, a group photograph was taken with the company representatives and student participants, capturing the spirit of collaboration, curiosity, and learning that defined the day. The industry visit to ACECAM Pvt Ltd was not merely a routine academic activity but a valuable educational initiative that empowered students to envision their future roles in the engineering field. It reinforced classroom learning through real-world application and contributed significantly to strengthening ties between academia and industry, setting the foundation for future collaborative endeavors.
