Event Overview The IEEE Student Branch of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University successfully hosted the Volunteer Training Workshop 2025 on the 7th of July, aiming to prepare the newly selected volunteers for the ongoing 2025/26 term. The session was thoughtfully structured to provide comprehensive insights into each team’s responsibilities, project expectations, and volunteer tasks. This interactive workshop also served as a platform for students to align with IEEE values, explore leadership opportunities, and begin their volunteer journey with clarity, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of purpose. Summary The Volunteer Training Workshop 2025 was a well-structured and engaging session that effectively introduced nearly 80 volunteers to their roles within the IEEE Student Branch of KDU. Through a series of informative presentations and interactive segments, participants gained valuable knowledge about the organizational structure, team responsibilities, and collaborative spirit required for the term ahead. The workshop laid a strong foundation for the year, enhancing both readiness and enthusiasm among the newly selected volunteers.

Agenda Highlights The workshop commenced at 2:30 PM with the arrival of participants, followed by a brief welcome speech that set the tone for the afternoon. A valuable address by the Student Branch Counsellor emphasized the importance of active engagement, time management, and personal growth throughout university life. A key highlight of the session was the inspiring speech by the IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group Advisor, who spoke on the importance of volunteerism. The advisor highlighted how volunteer work not only builds leadership and soft skills but also creates a lasting impact within the university community and beyond. Following that, a formal introduction to the IEEE Student Branch of KDU was conducted by the Chairperson, offering a comprehensive overview of the branch’s legacy, objectives, and structure. Subsequent presentations included: Roles of a Project Chair and Event Secretary Overview of the Program Team Responsibilities of the Secretary Team Membership Development Project Launch The second half of the workshop featured a series of insightful team presentations, including: Finance Team Design Team Public Relations Team Logistics Team Each team offered a clear snapshot of their functions, expectations, and upcoming projects, ensuring that all volunteers were well-informed about the structure of the Student Branch and the importance of cross-team collaboration. The session concluded at 5:30 PM with a final wrap-up, formally marking the beginning of what promises to be a dynamic, collaborative, and successful volunteer term.
