Description
IEEE Open Day 2025 was successfully held on 6th July 2025 at Technology Lecture Hall 01, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka. The event served as a vibrant platform to welcome and introduce new students to the world of IEEE and its multifaceted opportunities in professional and academic development. The occasion was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. Amila Sandaruwan Ratnayake, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Uva Wellassa University, whose presence added immense value to the proceedings. Also in attendance was Ms. Poornima Jayathunga, Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science and Informatics, who extended her support to the student-led initiative. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Manodya Nabadewewa, Project Lead of IEEE Region 10 Young Professionals, Chair of Student Activities – IEEE Sri Lanka Section, and Immediate Past Chair – IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka. Centered around the inspiring theme, “If you see an opportunity, just grab it,” his address resonated strongly with the audience, emphasizing the global impact and career-enhancing potential of IEEE volunteering. Adding further value to the event, Ms. Thrividya Liyanaarachchi, Chair of Student & Volunteer Activities – IEEE WIE Sri Lanka, also attended, encouraging young members—especially women in engineering—to explore and engage in leadership roles within IEEE. With over 150 enthusiastic students in participation, the event featured a blend of engaging activities, including interactive quizzes and games, along with impactful presentations by the chairs of the IEEE Uva Wellassa University Student Branch, WIE Affinity Group, RAS Chapter, IAS Chapter, and CS Chapter. Each presentation highlighted the respective unit’s objectives, key activities, volunteer opportunities, and future plans. By seamlessly integrating learning, leadership, and networking, the 4th IEEE Open Day not only inspired new students but also strengthened the sense of community among current members, contributing significantly to both retention and recruitment within the IEEE family at Uva Wellassa University.
