Career Compass is an educational outreach initiative organized by the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Vavuniya in collaboration with IEEE Sri Lanka Inspire . The program is designed to guide secondary school students—especially those in Grades 9 to 11 in making informed decisions about A/L subject stream selection, understanding the university admission process, and exploring career opportunities in both public and private sectors. By equipping students with the right knowledge, Career Compass aims to build a more educated, career-ready generation across Sri Lanka. The Northern Province session of Career Compass was successfully held on 25th June 2025 at TLH-1, Faculty of Technological Studies , University of Vavuniya . The session was hosted by the IEEE Student Branch of the University, providing a professional and academic environment where students could engage with practical educational guidance. The event ran from 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM, incorporating presentations, motivational talks, student interaction, and feedback segments. The session welcomed over 150 students and more than 10 teachers from three regional schools: V/Vavuniya Muslim Maha Vidyalayam , Al-Aksha Maha Vidyalayam , and V/Rambaikulam Girls' Maha Vidyalayam . The agenda included interactive presentations, personal experience sharing by IEEE student leaders, and deep discussions around A/L subject selection, state and private university pathways, loan schemes, and long-term academic planning. Participants actively engaged in Q&A segments and shared positive feedback about the clarity, structure, and inspiration gained from the session. The university was represented by Dean of the Faculty of Technological Studies , who extended his support and shared insights with the students. Also present were Branch Counsellor of the IEEE Student Branch and Advisor of the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE ) Student Branch Affinity Group, both of whom played active roles in guiding and supporting the event's vision. The session was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests and institutional leaders. Mr. Kavindra Weerasinghe, Chairperson of IEEE Sri Lanka Inspire , and Mr. Sithum Sankajith, Vice Chair – Program and Delivery of IEEE Sri Lanka Inspire , participated and addressed the gathering with encouraging thoughts. Additionally, Mr. Thisakaran Rasalingam , Assistant Lecturer and academic mentor, delivered an inspiring motivational speech , sharing his personal journey and offering valuable career guidance that deeply resonated with the students.
