Description
The IEEE WIE Introduction Session was organized by the IEEE WIE Affinity Group of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka to introduce students to the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) affinity group. The event was held on Monday, May 19th at 9:00 PM and was attended by undergraduate students from various engineering disciplines. The purpose of this session was to introduce students to the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) affinity group and encourage their active involvement in IEEE activities. The event aimed to raise awareness of the WIE mission, promote student membership, and provide guidance on how to join IEEE and WIE. Key highlights of the session included: An overview of IEEE WIE’s mission and global impact Explanation of membership benefits such as access to technical resources, leadership opportunities, and networking events A live demonstration on how to register for IEEE membership using the official IEEE web portal, covering step-by-step instructions for student enrollment Details about upcoming WIE initiatives at the university level and opportunities for student participation The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which students clarified their doubts regarding IEEE and WIE memberships. This session, led by Ms. Amandi Perera, Vice Chairwomen of the IEEE WIE Affinity Group, SEUSL, successfully motivated students—especially female undergraduates—to join IEEE and WIE. The event received positive feedback and contributed to increased interest in IEEE student branch activities.
