BLOCKCHAIN - Theory Workshop 01

May 28, 2025 · 5:00 AM - 7:00 AM @ Old Computer Center, Galle, Faculty of Engineering

Description

The “Foundation of Blockchain Technology and the Cardano Ecosystem” workshop was held on May 28, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Old Computer Center, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. Organized by the IEEE Student Branch in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Communications Society, the session brought together students and blockchain enthusiasts to explore foundational concepts in blockchain and delve into the Cardano ecosystem through practical engagement. The event began with a welcome address by the organizers, highlighting the importance of blockchain in shaping future digital infrastructure. This was followed by an introduction to the session hosts, CoinCeylon and Intersect Sri Lanka, setting the stage for an insightful and technically enriched learning experience. The first part of the session provided participants with a deep dive into blockchain fundamentals, introducing concepts such as decentralization, consensus mechanisms, and smart contracts. Attendees then transitioned into an overview of the Cardano ecosystem, exploring its unique layered architecture, governance model, and use cases in various sectors including finance, education, and supply chain management. A key highlight of the workshop was the hands-on activity segment, where participants analyzed live blockchain transactions. This interactive component enabled students to connect theoretical concepts with real-world blockchain operations, fostering a deeper and more applied understanding of the subject matter. The session concluded with a summary of key takeaways and future opportunities in the blockchain space. Participants left with a solid foundation in blockchain technology, a clear grasp of Cardano’s architectural strengths, and insights into real-world applications-equipping them with valuable knowledge for both academic growth and industry readiness. Introduction The “Foundation of Blockchain Technology and the Cardano Ecosystem” is a one-day physical workshop organized by the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Ruhuna in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Communications Society. It was designed to introduce students to the core principles of blockchain technology and the Cardano ecosystem through a blend of theoretical insights and hands-on activities. The session was carefully structured to enhance participants’ understanding of decentralized systems and real-world blockchain applications, bridging the gap between conceptual knowledge and practical implementation. Vision To create an engaging and educational environment where students can explore the fundamentals of blockchain technology and its practical applications. We envision the event becoming a foundational experience for aspiring professionals interested in blockchain innovation, decentralized systems, and the future of digital ecosystems. Mission Our mission is to foster a deeper understanding of blockchain technology through an interactive and hands on workshop, supported by expert-led sessions that will ignite interest in decentralized systems, smart contracts, and the Cardano ecosystem.
