BLOCKCHAIN - Theory Workshop 04

June 18, 2025 · 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM @ Old Computer Center, Galle, Faculty of Engineering

Description

The “Governance and Building Real-World Blockchain Applications” workshop was held on June 11, 2025, from 12:00 NOON to 2:00 PM at the Old Computer Center, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. Organized by the IEEE Student Branch in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Communications Society. The session brought together students and blockchain enthusiasts to explore foundational concepts in blockchain technology, with a focus on understanding governance models and developing real-world applications powered by blockchain systems and their maintenance processes. The event commenced with a welcome address by the organizers, emphasizing the crucial role of blockchain governance in shaping transparent, secure, and efficient decentralized systems. This was followed by the introduction of the session hosts, CoinCeylon and Intersect Sri Lanka, whose expertise was instrumental in guiding participants through both the theoretical and practical aspects of governance models and real-world blockchain applications. The initial segment of the session focused on the foundational elements of blockchain governance, including consensus mechanisms, on-chain decision-making, and decentralized control structures. Participants were introduced to governance frameworks within platforms like Cardano, gaining insight into how rules and upgrades are implemented in a decentralized ecosystem. The discussion then transitioned to the process of building real-world applications, highlighting key considerations in designing scalable, user-friendly, and secure blockchain solutions. A major highlight of the session was the hands-on workshop, where participants engaged in the practical design and simulation of blockchain applications while exploring how governance principles are integrated into application logic. This interactive experience enabled attendees to understand how smart contracts, user permissions, and protocol rules interact in real-life scenarios—effectively connecting governance theory with technical implementation. Significantly, all 89 participants successfully completed the entire four-part workshop series, demonstrating their commitment and enthusiasm. Each participant received a certificate of completion, marking their achievement. The session concluded with a special thank-you speech by Dr. Kushan Sudheera, who expressed sincere appreciation to CoinCeylon and Intersect Sri Lanka on behalf of the IEEE students Branch of University of Ruhuna for their invaluable support, knowledge-sharing, and dedication throughout the series. Participants left the event with a strong grasp of blockchain governance principles and the skills to begin building real-world applications, equipped for deeper exploration and innovation in the evolving landscape of decentralized technologies.
