CloudX 2025 - Theory Workshop

May 28, 2025 · 4:00 AM - 11:00 AM @ Galle, Faculty of Engineering

Description

CloudX 2025 marked a significant milestone in the University of Ruhuna's efforts to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry standards in cloud computing. The workshop was carefully curated to deliver both theoretical foundations and hands-on experience, making it highly relevant for students aspiring to enter the tech industry. The event began with a warm welcome by the IEEE ComSoc Chapter Chairperson, followed by an engaging introduction to cloud technologies. The workshop covered the fundamentals of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) models. It provided detailed insights into how cloud computing is transforming businesses, education, and startups globally. Throughout the sessions, students were introduced to cloud service platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure. The guest speakers conducted live demonstrations on how to deploy virtual machines, set up storage buckets, and manage compute resources, giving students real exposure to industry-grade platforms. Interactive Q&A segments allowed students to ask questions related to certifications, internships, career paths, and technical challenges in the cloud space. The speakers also shared their personal journeys and startup experiences, inspiring many students to pursue cloud engineering with confidence. One of the highlights of the session was a practical walkthrough of setting up cloud architecture and understanding global network availability zones. This was especially useful for students unfamiliar with the geographical distribution and redundancy planning involved in modern cloud systems. Moreover, the event emphasized the importance of DevOps integration, cloud security, and cost optimization, offering a well-rounded overview of the ecosystem. The workshop concluded with certificate distributions and a networking session, where students interacted one-on-one with the speakers and the organizing committee. CloudX 2025 not only provided a platform for knowledge sharing but also sparked a strong interest among participants to explore cloud-based projects and certifications like AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and Google Associate Cloud Engineer. Overall, the event served as a stepping stone for many aspiring engineers to envision a future in cloud computing and related technologies
