Siripa Sathkaraya 2025 was a collaborative community service project focused on environmental protection at Adam’s Peak (Sri Padha). Organized as a collaboration between the IEEE Student Branch of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Rotaract Club of KDU, KDU Media Circle, KDU Rovers, and Toastmasters KDU, the project aimed to clean the pilgrimage path by removing polythene and plastic waste. Volunteers also placed awareness placards along the Hatton route to promote responsible behavior among travelers. With the participation of 350+ students, the project reflected a strong collective effort toward preserving nature and continuing a meaningful legacy of service. Objectives of the Initiative The initiative aimed to contribute to the preservation and cleanliness of the sacred pilgrimage path at Adam’s Peak, while promoting environmental awareness and responsible behavior among pilgrims. It also sought to foster leadership, teamwork, and a sense of civic responsibility among university students, and to support sustainable tourism through meaningful and impactful environmental action. Outcomes and Impact Waste Collection : A total of 127 large and 53 small garbage bags were collected and disposed of responsibly. Awareness Raised : Over 20 awareness placards were installed to educate pilgrims and foster behavioral change regarding littering and environmental degradation. Volunteer Engagement : The project engaged a diverse and motivated group of over 350 volunteers , creating a shared sense of purpose and strong community involvement. This initiative made a significant contribution to environmental conservation efforts around Sri Padha, reinforcing the university’s commitment to service and sustainability. It also strengthened the collaborative bonds among various student-led organizations within the university. Significance of the Event Siripa Sathkaraya ‘25 stands as a powerful testament to the impact of youth-led community service. It demonstrated the capacity of student organizations to initiate meaningful change while reinforcing the critical role of IEEE student branches in addressing humanitarian and environmental challenges through action-oriented solutions. The involvement of multiple university societies added an interdisciplinary dimension to the project, broadening its impact and fostering a spirit of collaboration. Conclusion The Siripa Sathkaraya ‘25 initiative concluded successfully, achieving its primary objectives of environmental conservation and community engagement. It served as an inspiring example of how student-led humanitarian efforts can have a tangible impact on both society and the environment.
