IEEE Andaharaya - Officer Training Session

The Andaharaya , organized by the IEEE Sri Lanka section student activities committee in collaboration with the IEEE student branch of university of Ruhuna, was successfully held on 21st of June 2025, from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at the IS seminar room, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. The event brought together key figures from the IEEE Sri Lanka Section to guide and inspire the student community through a well-structured agenda featuring both knowledge-sharing and interactive components. The session commenced with a warm Welcome Speech by Mr. Hiruna Fernando, Chair of the IEEE Student Branch at the University of Ruhuna. He introduced the purpose and vision behind Andaharaya, setting the tone for a day of learning and connection. An insightful Introduction to IEEE was delivered by Ms. Manodya Nabadawewa, Chair of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student Activities Committee.This was followed by an Interactive Session with Ms. Joshiga Ravikumar, IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student Representative, who actively engaged the participants in discussions, helping them reflect on their role within IEEE and how they can contribute meaningfully. Ms. Nabadawewa also conducted a session on Contributing to Local & National IEEE Initiatives, providing insights into the many ways students can support IEEE’s mission at both local and national levels through volunteering, project work, and leadership. In the Branding Session, Mr. Sudesh Thashmika, public visibility vice chair of the IEEE SLSAC, emphasized the importance of personal and organizational branding within IEEE, equipping students with tools to enhance visibility and professionalism.Further, the session on Responsibilities & Best Practices in IEEE Volunteering offered a comprehensive overview of what it means to be an effective and responsible IEEE volunteer. The event wrapped up with a Networking Session, an exciting IEEE Trivia Challenge, and a Sharing Our Journeys segment where participants and speakers exchanged personal experiences and lessons learned through IEEE involvement. The final Q&A session allowed attendees to raise questions and seek advice, making the event both informative and interactive. Overall, Andaharaya successfully inspired and empowered IEEE student members to take initiative, connect with their peers and mentors, and engage actively in IEEE at all levels.
