On 4th June 2025, the IEEE Computer Society (CS) Student Branch Chapter of the University of Ruhuna conducted a physical workshop titled 'The First Key' at the New Computer Center (NCC). This was the first workshop in the Red Cypher 2.0 series. The session was aimed at providing participants with foundational cybersecurity knowledge and preparing them for the upcoming Capture The Flag (CTF) competition. PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP • Introduce the fundamentals of cybersecurity to participants. • Familiarize students with web application security and exploitation. • Equip participants with tips and tricks commonly used in CTF competitions. • Encourage active participation in Red Cypher 2.0 through technical engagement. KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WORKSHOP • Exploration of key cybersecurity concepts including web security and exploitation. • Discussion on common CTF tools, methods, and strategies. • Interactive Q&A session with real-world security insights. • Motivational guidance on cybersecurity career pathways. EVENT OUTCOMES • Participants were introduced to foundational cybersecurity topics and CTF practices. • Enhanced student awareness and curiosity about ethical hacking. • Built momentum and excitement for upcoming Red Cypher 2.0 events. • Fostered collaboration and problem-solving through interactive learning.
