On 14th June 2025, the IEEE Computer Society (CS) Student Branch Chapter of the University of Ruhuna organized a thrilling Capture The Flag (CTF) competition titled 'Red Cypher 2.0'. The event was held physically at the New Computer Center, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. Over 140 students grouped into 35 teams participated in this high-energy, hands-on cybersecurity challenge designed to foster ethical hacking skills, problem-solving, and team collaboration. PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE EVENT • Increase the cybersecurity knowledge among students. • Raise awareness about cybersecurity challenges and solutions. • Encourage participation and interest in the IEEE CS Chapter and cybersecurity field. KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EVENT • Capture The Flag (CTF) competition with a variety of cybersecurity challenges. • Students had to use cybersecurity knowledge to find hidden flags and submit codes. • Interactive, hands-on experience in ethical hacking and digital forensics. • Exciting team-based atmosphere promoting collaboration and competition. EVENT OUTCOMES • Technical cybersecurity community grew within the university. • Raised awareness of IEEE and the Computer Society Chapter. • Developed a competition mindset among students. • Promoted teamwork and peer learning. • Motivated students to pursue cybersecurity as a career path.
