The ByteBash v2.2 WordPress Workshop was successfully held on May 23rd, 2025 , at the E3 Computer Lab of Uva Wellassa University. This impactful session, titled "Introduction to Freelancing through WordPress," was organized as a collaborative event by the IEEE Computer Society Chapter , the IEEE Student Branch , and the Rotaract Club of Uva Wellassa University – Badulla . The workshop attracted a large number of students who were keen to explore the world of freelancing and web development. The session was conducted by Mr. R.A. Isanka Madhuwantha from Axoten Innovations (Pvt.) Ltd. , a dynamic speaker and experienced professional in WordPress development. His approachable style and industry insight made the workshop both engaging and educational. Mr. Madhuwantha began the session by introducing the basics of WordPress —its history, structure, and why it remains one of the most popular content management systems globally. He walked the participants through the process of setting up a WordPress website, covering key areas such as theme selection, plugin installation, customizing layouts, and adding essential website functionalities without writing code. A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to the freelancing landscape , where the speaker explained how students could leverage WordPress skills to begin their freelancing journey. He shared practical tips on building a professional portfolio, bidding on freelance platforms, pricing projects, and managing client expectations. The workshop, which started at 5:30 PM , maintained a highly interactive environment. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, try out hands-on tasks, and gain feedback on their work. With 150 seats available, the lab was filled to capacity, reflecting the strong interest in practical skill-building and digital entrepreneurship among the student body. This collaborative effort by three major student organizations successfully created a platform for students to gain real-world skills, build confidence, and explore new career opportunities. The ByteBash v2.2 workshop not only enriched the participants’ technical knowledge but also inspired many to take the first step into the freelance ecosystem using WordPress as a launchpad.
