IEEE STUDENT BRANCH OF SLTC – JULY 2025 MEETING SUMMARY

July 29, 2025 · 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM @ Online event

Description

The monthly meeting for July 2025 served as a continuation of the organizational transition process, with the 2025/2026 Executive Committee actively engaging in project execution, logistical arrangements, and strategic planning across all sub-units. Each chapter and affinity group provided focused updates on their respective initiatives, reflecting the collective momentum building toward upcoming events. The Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group shared updates on their preparations for the WIE Affinity Group Anniversary. This year, the team proposed an industry visit instead of the traditional event format. Discussions were held around potential companies for the visit, transportation logistics, and structuring a meaningful itinerary. Planning is underway to ensure the visit is both educational and engaging for members. The Computer Society (CS) Student Branch Chapter reported significant progress on the implementation of CloudSpace v1.0. The team is actively involved in venue discussions and finalizing arrangements for guest speakers, with particular interest in bringing in industry experts, including AWS community speakers. Event logistics, scheduling, and content development are being finalized in preparation for a three-day program scheduled for the upcoming weeks. The Industrial Electronics Society (IES) continued work on the Sri Lanka Arduino Challenge 2025. Key milestones included setting the final competition date, organizing workshop schedules, confirming guest speakers, and booking appropriate venues. With most logistical aspects nearing completion, the team is now focused on aligning all segments of the project in time for a smooth execution. The Industry Applications Society (IAS) initiated brainstorming sessions for their next major event, InnovMind v3.0. The team is in the idea generation phase, discussing potential formats, themes, and strategic goals for the project. Coordination with potential collaborators and sponsors is expected in the coming weeks as the proposal begins to take shape. The Student Branch (SB) concluded the meeting by sharing updates on preparations for the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025. Subcommittees were confirmed, and member details were collected. Responsibilities were distributed among members for venue arrangements, participant and guest confirmations, budgeting, and documentation. A notable update included the recent change to the SB Constitution, which now allows for financial contributions from all sub-organizational units (sub-OUs) to support AGM execution, ensuring a more collaborative and well-resourced event. Additionally, the Volunteer Engagement and Membership Development subcommittee role was officially subdivided into two distinct positions to better manage responsibilities and enhance focus on each domain. Efforts are also being made to ensure all board credential transfers and proposal developments are completed in time for the AGM.
