Description
The Induction Session for MicroMaze 2.0, organized by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society of IIT, served as the official kickoff to one of the most exciting inter-university robotics competitions in Sri Lanka. Hosted by Mueena Shahmy, the session began with an introduction to IEEE RAS and its initiatives, followed by a detailed walkthrough of the competition structure, rules, and expectations. Atheeque Furkhan, Chairperson of IEEE RAS, introduced MicroMaze 2.0, emphasizing its focus on innovation, teamwork, and engineering through the development of fully autonomous Micromice. A prize pool of LKR 400,000 was announced, raising the stakes for participating teams. Leyana Dabare, Secretary of IEEE RAS, provided a comprehensive breakdown of the event timeline, competition format, team eligibility, and key technical requirements for the robots. She highlighted that the event would feature two preparatory workshops and a final single-round competition, with no qualifiers. The technical core of the event was presented by Pasan Laksitha, Webmaster of IEEE RAS, who elaborated on the robot specifications, maze layout, competition rules, runtime procedures, penalties, and judging criteria. He stressed the importance of fairness, safety, and compliance throughout the competition. The session concluded with a reminder to register by June 28th, links to the registration form, and an invitation to follow IEEE RAS of IIT on social media for updates. Participants were encouraged to submit any queries via a dedicated Padlet link. The induction successfully laid the foundation for MicroMaze 2.0, igniting enthusiasm and setting clear expectations for the journey ahead.
