August 6, 2025 · 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM @ Faculty of Graduate Studies, Ratmalana, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University
Description
Event Description As part of the XELERATE’25 Phase 1 workshop series, this session equipped participants with practical frameworks for transforming problems into viable product concepts and developing Minimum Viable Products (MVPs). Led by Mr. Chanaka Prasad, Founder of Idea8 and an experienced innovation consultant, the workshop emphasized identifying real-world problems as the foundation for innovation, applying user-centered design thinking, and strategically validating product ideas before scaling. Participants explored structured ideation tools such as the SCAMPER model, with a focus on producing relevant, impactful solutions rather than chasing novelty. Real-world examples, including Starlink’s device communication and parking QR systems, illustrated the value of simple yet meaningful innovations. The MVP segment highlighted strategies for starting small, iterating quickly, and prioritizing essential features for market fit. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, including a discussion on applying MVP concepts in aviation through the idea of a solar-powered, rechargeable drone. Special Notes / Highlights Reflective opening questions to stimulate innovation-focused thinking. SCAMPER model introduced as a practical ideation framework. Real-world examples illustrating the link between simplicity and impact. Step-by-step guidelines for MVP development, emphasizing iteration and user feedback. Insightful Q&A discussion on domain-specific innovation in aviation.
