IEEE FOR THE COUNTRYSIDE (ගම්මැද්දට IEEE අපි) 4.0 | Pre-Training Session

September 2, 2025 at 3:30 PM - September 3, 2025 at 5:00 PM @ Online event

Description

The IEEE Power and Energy Society Student Branch Chapter (IEEE PES SBC - UOM) , IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Student Branch Chapter (IEEE RAS SBC - UOM) , and IEEE Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter (IEEE IAS SBC - UOM) of the University of Moratuwa jointly organized a vital training program for volunteers of the Gammaddata IEEE API 4.0 educational initiative. The program aimed to equip volunteers with the technical skills necessary to effectively engage students across Sri Lanka during the upcoming physical sessions of the initiative. The training was conducted over two virtual sessions, held on 2nd September and 3rd September from 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm , and was delivered by a team of undergraduate Resource Persons from the Mechatronics Engineering Division of the University of Moratuwa. Volunteers were introduced to the essentials of Arduino hardware and ESP32 microcontroller programming , starting with basic coding concepts and simple output controls such as LEDs and buzzers. They explored sensor integration, including temperature and motion detection, and learned to handle input devices like buttons effectively. The sessions also covered intermediate concepts, such as controlling servo motors, building interactive projects, and implementing basic logic operations like counters. Each topic was reinforced through simulations, allowing participants to practice programming, test circuits virtually, and troubleshoot errors in real time. Volunteers were trained on programming techniques, circuit implementation, and problem-solving strategies to ensure confidence in conducting the physical day sessions. This collaborative programme significantly enhanced the volunteers’ technical proficiency and preparedness. By participating in the training, they gained the knowledge and practical skills required to deliver a high-quality and engaging technological education experience across multiple districts in Sri Lanka. The initiative demonstrates the strong collaboration between the IEEE Student Branch Chapters at the University of Moratuwa and their commitment to empowering the next generation of learners through structured, hands-on training. Day 1: Training Session – 2nd September Day 2: Training Session – 3rd September
