The fifth session of the Career Readiness for the IT Industry workshop series was successfully conducted on 06th August 2025, from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm, bringing together students and young professionals to reflect on strategies for personal and professional growth in the fast-evolving IT landscape. Titled “Navigating Personal Growth in the IT Industry”, this session was led by Ms. Wyomi Ranasinghe, Principal Product Manager – Technology Product Management, who shared her expertise and practical insights from years of industry experience. The session explored a range of thought-provoking themes designed to help participants take ownership of their career journeys, including: Understanding the Landscape – how roles and career paths in IT have evolved. Identifying Your ‘Why’ – anchoring professional growth in purpose. Learning to Learn – developing systems for lifelong learning. Mentorship & Community – accelerating growth through networks. Skills That Truly Matter – highlighting the value of soft skills. Navigating Change & Failure – reframing setbacks as opportunities. Building Your Personal Brand – making professional growth visible. The session began with a warm and engaging introduction that set clear expectations and encouraged participants to reflect on their personal growth mindset. The wrap-up and Q&A segment provided an opportunity for participants to consolidate takeaways and seek practical advice directly from the speaker. This interactive workshop emphasized the importance of adaptability, resilience, and continuous self-improvement, empowering participants to navigate both opportunities and challenges in the IT industry. The event was jointly organized by the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter and SLAAS Section E3 (Computer Science). From the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter, the session was coordinated and organized by Ms. Suresha Perera. This workshop attracted undergraduates, recent graduates, and early-career professionals in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, and related disciplines, who gained valuable insights into shaping their career journeys with purpose and confidence.
