Workshop on Transforming Teaching Practices with Innovative Teaching Methodologies

The workshop on “Transforming Teaching Practices with Innovative Teaching Methodologies” was successfully conducted on 29th August 2025, from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm at Weragama Junior School, Wadduwa. The session brought together 15 teachers and the school principal, creating a collaborative environment for professional growth and exchange of ideas. The event was jointly organized by the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter and SLAAS Section E3 (Computer Science). From the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter, the session was coordinated and organized by Ms. Suresha Perera. The rationale behind the workshop was to support teachers in adapting to the evolving educational landscape by introducing innovative teaching methodologies and digital tools that enhance lesson delivery, student engagement, and assessment practices. The session was enriched by the expertise of three distinguished resource persons from The Open University of Sri Lanka: Dr. Nayanee Rathnayaka – Senior Lecturer II, Department of Secondary & Tertiary Education, Faculty of Education Ms. Suresha Nilmini Perera – Lecturer, Department of Computer Science Ms. Shalini Rajasingham – Lecturer, Center for Educational Technology and Media (CETMe) Together, they guided participants through interactive discussions and practical demonstrations, covering: The changing landscape of education and smart teaching strategies Practical approaches to interactive and personalized learning Smart tools for lesson planning and student engagement Effective teaching techniques for modern classrooms The workshop also included a Q&A and wrap-up session, providing participants with the opportunity to clarify concepts and share reflections on applying these methodologies in their own classrooms. By the end of the session, participants gained: A deeper understanding of modern teaching strategies that improve efficiency and impact Hands-on experience with smart tools for lesson planning and student interaction Practical insights into adaptive learning methods for personalized instruction Awareness of professional development opportunities in tech-assisted education This interactive program not only offered valuable professional development for teachers but also sparked enthusiasm for integrating innovative practices into everyday teaching. The active participation of the school principal and teachers reflected the importance placed on enhancing classroom practices for the benefit of students.
