On the 23rd of August 2025, the KDU premises hosted Genesiz 2025, where ten outstanding teams shortlisted from a pool of registrants gathered for a day of intense competition and innovation. The event was a collaborative effort, jointly organized by ERIC in partnership with IEEE ComSoc, IEEE PES, IEEE EMBS, MATHSOC KDU, BCS Student Chapter of KDU, Royal Aeronautical Society Student Chapter of KDU, and IMECHE KDU. The program featured a variety of competitions: QuizVerse – an engineering quiz organized by IEEE ComSoc, IEEE PES, IEEE EMBS, and MATHSOC KDU. Code n Play – a hackathon-style game organized by the BCS Student Chapter of KDU. Model Glider Building Competition – focused on aerodynamics, stability, and design principles, organized by the Royal Aeronautical Society Student Chapter of KDU. Line-Maze Coding Challenge – a robotics coding competition organized by IMECHE KDU. Idea Pitch Challenge – the central highlight, where teams presented engineering solutions before an esteemed judging panel comprising Ms. Crishmi Costa (AI Program Manager, IFS), Mr. Binul Wijayasundara (Electrical Engineer, Phoenix Solar Solutions), and Mr. Surath Gajanayake (Researcher, University of Surrey). The awarding ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of KDU and distinguished academic guests. A keynote address was delivered by Eng. Bhanuka Dayawansa, Lecturer and Discipline Lead in Mechatronics Engineering at Curtin University, Colombo, adding intellectual depth to the event. In the final results, Team Bioplastic Revolution from the University of Moratuwa was crowned the Overall Champions, while Team PulzeTrones (University of Moratuwa) was awarded the Best Responsive Team, and Hydro Tech (University of Kelaniya) secured the Runners-up position. Genesiz 2025 was a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence, leaving a lasting impact on participants and setting the stage for future breakthroughs in technology.
