Lumora

September 7, 2025 · 3:00 AM - 8:00 AM @ Parakramapura, Padaviya

Description

Lumora is a humanitarian initiative spearheaded by the IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter of SLIIT with the aim of uplifting underserved rural communities in Sri Lanka through compassion-driven action. Rooted in the belief that engineering leadership must extend beyond academia to address real-world challenges, the project was designed to respond to the pressing social and economic hardships faced by families in Parakramapura and Padaviya. Recognizing the lack of access to essential resources such as food, educational materials, and clean drinking water, Lumora focused on delivering practical, sustainable solutions that create immediate relief and long-term value. The initiative provided dry rations and stationery packs to 30 disadvantaged families, established a community water filtration system, and donated a water motor to the village temple to ensure continuous access to clean water. Beyond its humanitarian outcomes, Lumora served as a platform for students to translate empathy into action, embodying the core values of IEEE and PES; leadership, service, and innovation for humanity. It fostered collaboration among students, faculty, donors, and local stakeholders, creating a shared impact that extended beyond a single event. Through meaningful engagement, thoughtful planning, and responsible execution, Lumora stands as a model of how student-led efforts can drive social transformation with dignity and purpose.
