Artemia 1.0 – Designathon Session Date: 21st October 2025 Time: 8:30 p.m. onwards Platform: Zoom Speaker: Mr. Rasika Mahindasiri – Director of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) at 99X Participant Count: Around 60 Session Overview: The second session of Artemia 1.0, titled Designathon, was successfully conducted as part of the series organized by the IEEE WIE Affinity Group of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The session focused on enhancing participants’ understanding of UI/UX design, wireframing, and human-centered creativity to support the development of impactful technological solutions promoting women’s safety and empowerment. Discussion Points: 1. Introduction to Human-Centered Design: Mr. Mahindasiri emphasized the importance of designing with empathy and understanding user needs to create meaningful and practical solutions. 2. UI/UX Fundamentals: Participants learned about effective user interface design principles, color theory, layout consistency, and accessibility in design. 3. Wireframing and Prototyping: The session covered the process of creating wireframes and prototypes that translate ideas into visually interactive concepts. 4. Creativity in Solving Real-World Problems: The speaker encouraged participants to explore innovative design approaches that address women’s safety issues such as harassment, cybercrimes, and community protection. 5. Q&A Session: An interactive question-and-answer segment allowed participants to clarify doubts and gain expert insights into modern design practices and usability testing. Announcements: At the conclusion of the session, the winners of the Ideathon Phase (Phase 1) were officially announced. The winning teams are as follows: Lumora, Innosphere, Inpix, Binary Bots, Nexora, UI Pixels, Valkyries, Rising Tech Dragons, Alphacore, Techlyn, TheByteForce, Sheild, Shawo, and Theodora’s Bloom. Conc lu sion: The session was a great success, equipping participants with vital UI/UX knowledge and design thinking skills. Appreciation was extended to Mr. Rasika Mahindasiri for his valuable contribution and inspiring insights that guided participants toward crafting impactful, user-centered solutions.
