The IEEE ComSoc USJP Chapter opened applications for Standing Committee positions on 11th August 2025, inviting dedicated members to contribute to the chapter’s initiatives. The positions—Volunteer Management, Public Visibility, and Editorial—offered opportunities to enhance leadership, teamwork, and technical communication skills while supporting the chapter’s mission. The application period closed on 25th August 2025, aiming to attract members capable of creativity, collaboration, and reliability. Recruitment Process Application Phase: Interested candidates submitted detailed applications highlighting academic achievements, prior experience, skills, and motivations. Applications were evaluated based on commitment and availability, teamwork experiences, past IEEE participation, and communication skills. Clear criteria ensured fairness and informed candidate selection. Interview Sessions: Interviews were conducted over four consecutive days (11–14 September 2025): 11 September: Hiran Dharmapala & Lenmini Herath interviewed 6 candidates. 12 September: Lasindu Ariyarathna & Savindu Weerawarna interviewed 7 candidates. 13 September: Yohara Perera & Shathika Perera interviewed 11 candidates. 14 September: Shathika Perera, Lenmini Herath & Savindu Weerawarna interviewed 10 candidates. In total, 34 candidates participated. Interviews included introductions, scenario-based and role-specific questions, and behavioral assessments to gauge teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and alignment with IEEE values. Evaluation Criteria: General: Commitment, teamwork, past IEEE experience, and communication skills. Role-specific (Public Visibility & Editorial): Graphic design, video editing, and creativity in producing engaging content. Selection: After detailed discussions among the Executive Committee (ExCom) and approval by the IEEE Student Branch, the final list of Standing Committee members was announced: Public Visibility: Isiri Perera (Crew Head) Sehansa Karunathilake Sewmini Jayamali Anuja Deshan Editorial: Dilum Pathirana (Crew Head) Devini Thathsarani Dilmi Sandunika Volunteer Management: Ahinsa Wikramarathna (Crew Head) Waruna Udara Dinethi Tharindi Nimesha Nanayakkara Harini Dissanayake Induction Meeting The Standing Committee Induction Meeting was held on 2nd October 2025 at 8:00 PM via Google Meet, welcoming the new members and commencing their term. Welcome & Introduction: ExCom greeted all members. Hiran Dharmapala provided an overview of the IEEE ComSoc Chapter, its objectives, and the roles of each committee. Documentation & Tools: Yohara Perera and Savindu Weerawarna guided members through the documentation process and introduced IEEE vTools, emphasizing accurate record-keeping. Members were assigned their first challenge: preparing a one-page project proposal to promote teamwork and practical project understanding. Fund & Branding Guidelines: Shathika Perera explained the fund request process for events, while Lenmini Herath presented branding and social media guidelines to ensure professional and consistent chapter communications. The meeting concluded with encouragement for members to maintain communication, share ideas, and actively contribute to upcoming projects. The session set a strong foundation for committee operations and reinforced the collaborative spirit of the IEEE ComSoc USJP Chapter.
