BioByte Day 1 - Introduction to Bioinformatics and In Silico Research
October 16, 2025 · 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM @ Online event
Description
BioByte was an online webinar series designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of Bioinformatics, along with the essential software tools and platforms commonly used in the field. Day 1 focused on "Introduction to Bioinformatics and In Silico Research", where participants were introduced to bioinformatics as an interdisciplinary field that combines biology, computer science, and data analysis to interpret complex biological information. The session explained how computational methods complement traditional laboratory approaches by enabling faster and more efficient data analysis. It also covered the structure and significance of bioinformatic databases, including primary, secondary, and composite databases, with examples such as NCBI, UniProt, STRING, and Expasy. The importance of these databases in facilitating global data sharing, supporting evolutionary studies, and accelerating discovery was emphasized, along with insights into the future of bioinformatics driven by artificial intelligence and multi-omics integration.
