Introduction to Microgrids

October 23, 2025 · 4:45 AM - 6:45 AM @ Moratuwa, Seminar Room, Department of Electrical Engineering

Description

The session aimed to provide students with a foundational and technical understanding of modern microgrid systems. The event featured two researchers and instructors from the Electrical Engineering Department, Mr. Yasith Randila Perera and Mr. Rajind Chamika , who delivered the key presentations. The session was structured to offer both broad and specific knowledge on the topic. Mr. Chamika began by establishing a solid foundation on microgrids, introducing the fundamental concepts and significance of these localized power systems. Following this, Mr. Yasith delved into the technical aspects of microgrids, placing a special focus on the operational details and design of the University of Moratuwa Microgrid . This specific case study allowed participants to connect general principles to a real-world, local system. To enhance the learning experience, participants were given a valuable opportunity to visit the University of Moratuwa Smart Grid Research Lab . This field visit provided hands-on experience and a practical understanding of the concepts discussed during the presentations. The comprehensive event concluded with an interactive Question and Answer (Q&A) session , allowing attendees to seek clarification and engage further with the instructors, followed by a time for networking over refreshments.
