November 20, 2025 · 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM @ Online event
Description
Path2Pro is a professional development initiative organized by the IEEE Student Branch of SLTC in collaboration with IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka (YPSL). The project was conceptualized with a clear mission to empower SLTC undergraduates by enhancing their professional competencies, career readiness and understanding of real-world industry expectations. In an era where technological advancement and workplace dynamics evolve rapidly, students face growing challenges in building professional identities, networking with industry experts and identifying suitable career pathways. Path2Pro was developed to bridge this gap by creating a meaningful platform for undergraduates to interact with experienced professionals, acquire practical knowledge and gain valuable mentorship. The event brought together two distinguished speakers from IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka, Mr. Mohammed Jaseem, Associate Manager at SLASSCOM and Treasurer of IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka; and Mr. Mohamed Shakil Arifeen, Real-Time System Engineering Intern at Econsulate (Pvt) Ltd and Executive Committee Member of IEEE YPSL. Their participation enriched the programme by offering students exposure to both senior-level industry insights and early-career professional experiences, showcasing a balanced spectrum of career development perspectives. The session commenced with a warm welcome and an introduction to the longstanding collaboration between IEEE SB SLTC and IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka. Attendees were provided with an overview of how the IEEE ecosystem supports student members through learning opportunities, leadership development and global networking. The main session was conducted with a strong focus on three aspects as Professional Skill Building, Career Development Roadmap and balancing academic goals with career ambitions. Mr. Jaseem shared insights from his experience at SLASSCOM, highlighting industry expectations, professional etiquette and the significance of continuous self-improvement. Mr. Shakil, representing the young professional cohort, offered relatable advice for students transitioning from university to industry. A unique aspect of Path2Pro was the opportunity for students to learn about ongoing IEEE YPSL initiatives. This exposure provided participants with a clearer understanding of how IEEE can support their long-term career growth. The Q&A session allowed students to seek personalized guidance on multiple topics, including internship opportunities, field specialization and maintaining motivation during academic pressure. The speakers addressed each question with practical examples, giving students clarity and confidence. Path2Pro successfully accomplished its objective of bridging the gap between academic learning and Participants left the session motivated, better informed and equipped with new perspectives on professional development. The collaboration with IEEE YPSL also strengthened future prospects for joint programs, providing continuity for long-term benefits.
