Introduction The third session of the Tech Pulse series was successfully conducted on 27th August 2025 as a virtual event via Microsoft Teams. Organised by the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group of Sri Lanka, the session focused on the topic “UI/UX Essentials: Importance, Industry Practices, and Future Trends.” The session featured Ms. Sarani Mendis, Senior Software Engineer at WSO2, as the guest speaker, providing participants with valuable industry insights into the world of UI/UX design. Objectives The main objectives of the session were to: Introduce participants to the fundamental concepts of UI/UX design Highlight the importance of user-centered design in modern technology Provide insights into real-world industry practices Explore emerging trends and future directions in UI/UX Inspire students to consider UI/UX as a potential career pathway Event Overview The session commenced at 5:00 PM with an engaging presentation by Ms. Sarani Mendis. Drawing from her professional experience at WSO2, she delivered an insightful discussion on the essential role of UI/UX in software development and product success. Ms. Mendis guided participants through key UI/UX concepts, industry-standard practices, and the practical processes followed by design teams in real-world projects. She also shared personal experiences from her career journey, offering students a realistic perspective on the skills and mindset required to excel in the field. A significant part of the session was dedicated to discussing future trends in UI/UX, including evolving user expectations, accessibility considerations, and the impact of new technologies on design practices.
