The IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter conducted an Awareness Session at CINEC Campus on 24 November 2025 as part of its ongoing initiative to educate and inspire undergraduates across the island. This session followed the structured outlined in the WinterWave Awareness Series, where the emphasis is placed on increasing student exposure to IEEE Computer Society opportunities, professional development pathways, and leadership potential within the technology domain.The program brought together more than sixty freshers from computing and engineering disciplines, creating a vibrant atmosphere of curiosity, exploration, and academic enthusiasm. The session was conducted by Mr. Vidura Bandara, Secretary of the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter, who delivered an engaging and insightful narrative tailored to the needs of first-year students stepping into the world of technology.Throughout the session, Mr. Vidura emphasized the importance of cultivating an innovation-driven and research-oriented mindset from the earliest stages of university life. He offered practical insights into how students can begin exploring research questions, build meaningful projects, and contribute to emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, software engineering, and data-driven systems.the session provided a comprehensive overview of the benefits of volunteering within IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society. Students were introduced to the numerous opportunities available at university, national, and global levels, including event organizing, program leadership, technical communities, and networking with industry professionals. This portion of the session provided a valuable understanding of how volunteering enhances professional readiness, strengthens soft skills, and builds a strong foundation for future career pathways The session concluded with a renewed sense of motivation among the student participants. It successfully broadened their understanding of the IEEE ecosystem, introduced them to the importance of early professional development, and encouraged them to pursue leadership and technical excellence through active involvement in IEEE Computer Society initiatives. The event strengthened the relationship between the IEEE CS Sri Lanka Chapter and CINEC Campus, contributing to the long-term mission of nurturing future-ready technologists and innovators. Overall, the Awareness Session marked a valuable and impactful milestone in the chapter’s continuous efforts to support the academic and professional growth of Sri Lankan undergraduates.
