Nenasa STEM Education Workshop : IEEE Sri Lanka Section SIGHT

September 15, 2025 · 3:00 AM - 7:30 AM @ Siri Vidyakeerthi Kanishta Vidyalaya, Mirigama, Mirigama

Description

On 15th September 2025, the Light & Circuits Workshop was successfully conducted at Siri Vidyakeerthi Kanishta Vidyalaya, Mirigama. The primary goal of the workshop was to help students understand how electricity flows in simple circuits, recognize the differences between bulbs, LEDs, and resistors, and creatively apply their knowledge to build real-world projects. The workshop began with an engaging icebreaker that encouraged students to identify sources of light in everyday life. This discussion introduced the concept of how light is produced and how circuits enable it. Students then learned the basics of electrical circuits by assembling simple loops using batteries, wires, and bulbs. Through experimentation, they observed the importance of closed circuits and how electrical energy powers light. In the next segment, students explored LEDs and resistors, discovering how LEDs conserve energy and why resistors are crucial for regulating current flow. They tested different setups to observe variations in brightness and learned about safe circuit design. The highlight of the workshop was the "Light-Up Name Badge" activity, where participants applied their knowledge creatively by designing personalized glowing badges using LEDs, copper tape, and coin-cell batteries. The session concluded with a reflective discussion reinforcing the key principles of circuits and encouraging students to continue experimenting. The workshop successfully blended creativity and engineering, inspiring young learners to see themselves as future innovators in technology.
