The IEEE NPSS Student Branch Chapter at the University of Moratuwa successfully organised Field Visit 2025 | Visit 03 to the Sri Lanka Gamma Centre, Biyagama on 14th October 2025 , from 14.30 to 18.00 . The visit aimed to expose students to real industrial applications of nuclear science and strengthen their understanding of radiation-based technologies used in practice. A key part of the visit was an informative session conducted at the Gamma Centre. Students learned about the use of gamma radiation in industrial sterilisation and its role in medical and food-related applications. They also observed the sterilisation process used for medical equipment such as syringes, catheters, and surgical gloves, along with selected food items. This direct exposure helped connect classroom concepts with real operational systems. The visit ended with positive feedback from the participants, who appreciated the opportunity to learn in an industrial setting. The programme supported academic growth while also building links between the student chapter and industry professionals. Overall, the field visit was a meaningful learning experience and reflected the chapter’s ongoing efforts to promote practical knowledge in nuclear and plasma sciences.
