September 26, 2025 · 5:00 AM - 11:00 AM @ Colombo, 422 R. A. De Mel Mawatha, Colombo 00300
Description
Our recent industry visit to Cloud Solutions International (CSI) for TechTrek Workshop 05 was an enlightening experience that broadened our understanding of the ethical and practical dimensions of modern technology. The day began at their Colombo 03 headquarters with a warm welcome from Rehana Rishard Saleem, CSI’s Assistant Manager of Human Resources. Drawing from her extensive background in talent development, Rehana set an engaging and collaborative tone for the 15 participating students, giving us a glimpse into the company’s vibrant culture before the technical sessions commenced. The morning agenda was led by Raveen Seneviratne, a Senior Business Analyst at CSI . leveraging his unique background in Physics and Business Analysis, Raveen provided a dual perspective on how technology operates within both legal frameworks and industrial floors. He started by exploring the "Legal & Societal Implications of AI," dismantling complex regulatory concepts, before shifting focus to the practical applications of "Industrial Automation & IoT in Manufacturing." His session effectively bridged the gap between theoretical tech potential and the real-world constraints of business and law. Following the midday break, the focus shifted toward the moral responsibilities of engineering, led by Buddhi Kavindra Ranasinghe, a Senior Software Engineer in R&D (AI) and the founder of Buddhi AI. Known for his work in privacy-first AI, Buddhi conducted thought-provoking discussions on "Ethical Principles in AI and Robotics" and "Human-AI Interaction Ethics." He followed this with a technical deep-dive into "AI Bias, Fairness, and Transparency," illustrating how "black box" algorithms can impact society. The visit concluded with an interactive Q&A session involving both speakers, followed by tea and a group photograph, leaving us with valuable insights into the crucial balance between technological advancement and ethical responsibility.
