Description
On the morning of October 15th, 2025, a dedicated cohort of 13 undergraduates embarked on an industry visit to the Epic Techno-Village in Battaramulla for TechTrek Workshop 08. Hosted by Epic Lanka Pvt Ltd, a premier name in the fintech and digital solutions landscape, the visit was curated to provide students with a tangible understanding of how high-level software engineering operates within a corporate environment. The state-of-the-art facility itself set an inspiring backdrop, reinforcing the workshop's goal of bridging the gap between academic concepts and the dynamic realities of the tech industry. The centerpiece of the agenda was an intensive two-hour technical session commencing at 10:00 AM, focused on "AI and Machine Learning." This deep dive was led by Sadeep Priyankara, a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Machine Learning at Epic Lanka. Moving beyond introductory theories, Sadeep provided a comprehensive look into the engineering lifecycle of AI models. He shared valuable insights into how Epic Lanka integrates intelligent algorithms into their fintech solutions, giving students a realistic perspective on the challenges and rewards of a career in AI. His expertise offered a clear window into the skills required to thrive in modern software development. Following the intellectual rigor of the lecture, the atmosphere shifted to active engagement with a competitive Quiz Session at 12:00 PM. This interactive segment allowed students to test their grasp of the morning's topics in a fun, high-energy environment. The session concluded with a networking snack break, providing a rare opportunity for the undergraduates to interact informally with industry professionals and ask direct questions about company culture and career paths. The visit wrapped up at 1:00 PM with a group photograph, marking the end of a highly educational morning that left the students with a clearer vision of their future roles in the technology sector.
