TeckTrek II Workshop 9

October 22, 2025 · 3:30 AM - 9:00 AM @ Colombo 00200, No. 42, Level 15, Nawam Mawatha

Description

On the morning of October 22nd, 2025, a group of 40 undergraduates arrived at the Rootcode headquarters on Nawam Mawatha for Techtrek II Workshop 09. Located on the 15th floor with a commanding view of Colombo, the venue offered an inspiring and professional atmosphere for students eager to explore the frontiers of modern computing. The program was specifically designed to move beyond traditional learning, offering a rare look at how a premier tech firm like Rootcode builds and scales AI-driven solutions for the global market. The agenda opened at 9:00 AM with an engaging introduction to Rootcode, where students learned about the company's culture and its diverse portfolio of high-impact AI projects. This served as the perfect lead-in to the day’s core session, focused on "AI and the Ethical Use of AI." Conducted by Mr. Thiru, the session was a comprehensive exploration of how Artificial Intelligence functions as a tool for solving complex human challenges. Crucially, Mr. Thiru emphasized the importance of integrity in tech, leading a vital discussion on the responsible and fair application of algorithms in an increasingly automated world. The late morning saw the students transition into a high-energy Interactive Group Activity. Working in teams, the undergraduates tackled scenario-based challenges that required them to diagnose problems and select the most effective AI techniques to solve them. After a short refreshment break, the focus shifted to Student Presentations, where each group defended their strategies and demonstrated their understanding of both the technical and ethical dimensions of their work. This hands-on segment allowed the participants to showcase their problem-solving skills in a professional setting. The event concluded at 2:30 PM, leaving the students with a much deeper appreciation for the intersection of technology and social responsibility. By blending technical depth with practical group work, the workshop succeeded in providing the 40 attendees with a clear roadmap for their future careers in the tech sector.
