TeckTrek II Workshop 12
December 11, 2025 · 4:00 AM - 7:30 AM @ Colombo 00300, The Wavertree, 141/11 Vauxhall St
Description
On the morning of December 12th, 2025, 5 undergraduates visited Atlas Labs on Vauxhall Street for Techtrek II Workshop 12. This visit was organised as an immersive department-to-department tour, allowing the students to explore the full lifecycle of industrial technology, from initial software logic to physical production. The tour began in the Automation & Control Department, where students were introduced to the fundamentals of Industrial Automation and PLC Programming. They observed how engineers design the brains of a factory, using programmable logic controllers to manage high-speed machinery. The group then moved to the Monitoring & Data Centre, exploring the role of SCADA systems and IIoT. Here, they saw how real-time data from the factory floor is captured and visualised to monitor production health and predict equipment failures before they happen. A highlight of the exploration was the Robotics & Smart Manufacturing Wing. The students walked through active Robotic Production Lines, seeing firsthand how multi-arm robots are synchronised to perform precise assembly tasks. The tour concluded with a deep dive into Industry 4.0 integration, demonstrating how every department, from sensors on the floor to the cloud-based analytics, works together to create a truly smart factory. By visiting each specialised area, the attendees gained a practical understanding of how their academic knowledge translates into the complex, interconnected world of modern manufacturing.
