December 6, 2010 · 12:00 PM - 1:15 PM @ Colombo

Description

Space Technology Applications, over nearly past half-century period of their existence, have always been amongst those few backbone technologies that have had a phenomenal impact on the development of advanced technology solutions across a wide range of fields. Though the term Space Technologies is used to refer to a diverse bundle of interdisciplinary technologies in different contexts, its applications are commonly identified in three broad areas: namely, Satellite Communication, Earth Observation, and Global Navigation and Positioning. The spectrum of applications span across a wide range including Fixed and Mobile Communication, Television and Radio Broadcasting, Natural Resources Management, Transport and Logistics, Meteorological Modeling and Prediction, Disaster Management, Environment, Agriculture, Land, Forest and Wildlife, Surface and Air Navigation, Global Time and Positioning, and many others. This presentation is an attempt to highlight, with some examples, the potential of the use of Space Technology Applications in the process of addressing a multitude of development issues typically faced by a developing nation of today, and to discuss the future trends of those technology applications.
