INTRODUCTION CareerXpo 2.0 is a flagship career development initiative organized by the IEEE Student Branch, University of Ruhuna, in collaboration with the Electrical and Information Engineering Society (EIES) and the Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the University of Ruhuna. The event serves as a professional platform to connect engineering undergraduates with industry experts and leading organizations, supporting a smooth transition from academia to the professional world. The program focuses on enhancing industry readiness among final-year undergraduates by providing exposure to real-world recruitment practices, industry expectations, and emerging career pathways in engineering and technology. Through informative sessions, company interactions, and recruitment-oriented activities, CareerXpo 2.0 helps students make informed decisions about their career development and future employment opportunities. CareerXpo 2.0 was successfully held on the 29th of January 2026 at Trace Expert City, Colombo 10. The event featured interactive sessions, company stalls, interviews, and networking opportunities conducted by industry professionals representing diverse engineering domains. The initiative empowered undergraduates to align their academic knowledge with industry demands while building confidence, professionalism, and clarity in pursuing their career goals. OBJECTIVES · Provide students with knowledge about industry-specific requirements and standards · Connect students and job seekers with potential employers for networking opportunities · Assist companies in identifying and recruiting talented candidates · Enable companies to present their brand and conduct on-the-spot interviews or schedule them with candidates · Enable companies to receive attendee feedback to improve recruitment and employer branding EVENT DESCRIPTION The CareerXpo 2.0 event, held on 29th January 2026, was a comprehensive career development program designed to prepare final-year undergraduates for a smooth transition into the engineering industry. The event commenced with informative and industry-focused sessions that outlined current career pathways in engineering and technology, including opportunities in software engineering, artificial intelligence and data science, embedded systems, telecommunications, cybersecurity, and electrical and electronic engineering. These sessions provided participants with a clear understanding of industry expectations, recruitment processes, and emerging professional trends. This was followed by interactive segments that allowed students to engage directly with company representatives through networking opportunities, CV reviews, and interview sessions. Participants gained practical exposure to real-world recruitment environments, enabling them to showcase their skills, receive professional feedback, and explore internship and employment opportunities with leading organizations. The event concluded with interactive discussions and closing remarks that emphasized the importance of continuous learning, adaptability, and professional growth in today’s competitive job market. CareerXpo 2.0 successfully empowered undergraduates with confidence, clarity, and motivation, encouraging them to take proactive steps toward achieving their career aspirations and professional goals.
