Description
The Career Compass event is a significant initiative under IEEE Sri Lanka Inspire (SLI), organized by IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka. The event serves as a platform to guide Sri Lankan students in making informed decisions about their educational and career paths. The program focuses on providing career guidance and motivation for students at crucial academic stages, Ordinary Level, Advanced Level, and university entry, helping them navigate diverse opportunities in education and employment. The SLI Career Compass Workshop was successfully held on the 11th of October 2025 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. The event featured insightful sessions conducted by Ruhuna Engineering Faculty Undergraduates, focusing on career pathways, subject selection, and personal development. The workshop empowered students to align academic choices with future goals and professional aspirations. The Career Compass session, held on 11th October, was an inspiring program designed to guide students in choosing the right path after their O/L examinations. The session began with an informative talk that outlined the different career pathways available after O/Ls, including pursuing A/L studies, joining technical or vocational colleges, and exploring other professional learning opportunities. This was followed by a segment that highlighted the possibilities for students who do not continue with A/Ls, emphasizing how various skill-based and technical fields can still lead to meaningful and successful careers. The session concluded with a motivational speech that encouraged students to believe in self growth and perseverance. Through an interactive game, the speaker conveyed a valuable message that true success is not about defeating others but about rising higher through self improvement and determination. The session left students inspired and motivated to move forward confidently toward their future goals. VISION To recognize the diverse needs and encourage the Sri Lankan educational community to follow up on their career goals with the aim of disseminating knowledge through our accurate resources and endowing educated citizens in the country.
