Description

The IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC proudly presents Lumora V1.0, a landmark celebratory event held on 13th December 2025 at the SLTC premises, Padukka. This meaningful gathering marked the 5th anniversary of the chapter while warmly welcoming its newest members, particularly the 12th batch students, into the IEEE family. More than a ceremonial occasion, Lumora V1.0 was designed as a platform of inspiration, connection, and reflection honoring the chapter’s journey while illuminating the path forward for future generations. Since its establishment, the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC has served as a hub for technological learning, leadership development, and professional growth. Over the past five years, the chapter has evolved from a small group of enthusiastic students into a dynamic community of innovators, leaders, and changemakers. Through technical initiatives, awareness programs, and collaborative projects, the chapter has consistently contributed to nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared for the demands of the modern technological world. Lumora V1.0 stood as a tribute to this remarkable journey, celebrating not only achievements but also the resilience, dedication, and unity that shaped the chapter’s identity. It was a moment of pride for senior members and a source of inspiration for newcomers, reminding everyone that each member plays a vital role in shaping the future of the organization. A key purpose of Lumora V1.0 was to create a warm, inclusive, and meaningful welcome for new members. Transitioning into university life can be overwhelming, and joining a professional body like IEEE may initially seem challenging. This event was thoughtfully designed to ease that transition by offering students a sense of belonging, confidence, and purpose. Through interactive sessions, symbolic elements, and engaging activities, newcomers were introduced to the values of IEEE and the collaborative spirit that defines the chapter. The formal proceedings of Lumora V1.0 began with a welcome speech delivered by the Project Chairperson of Lumora V1.0, Mr. Danuja Balasooriya. In his address, he warmly welcomed the distinguished guest speaker, esteemed special guests, advisory panel members, the executive committee of the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC, and the executive committee members of the IEEE Student Branch of SLTC. He extended a special welcome to all participants, with particular emphasis on the newly joined 12th batch students, recognizing them as the future pillars of the chapter. In his speech, Mr. Balasooriya highlighted the significance of Lumora V1.0 as more than a celebration. He described it as a moment of reflection, unity, and renewal where past achievements are honored, present efforts are appreciated, and future aspirations are ignited. He emphasized that IEEE is not merely an organization but a global platform that nurtures innovation, leadership, ethical responsibility, and service to humanity. He further spoke about the vision of the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC and its commitment to empowering students through knowledge-sharing, skill development, and leadership opportunities. His inspiring words set a positive and enthusiastic tone for the entire event, making participants feel welcomed, valued, and motivated. One of the most impactful segments of Lumora V1.0 was the guest speaker session conducted by Mr. Chameera De Silva, Head of the Department of Data Science at Sri Lanka Technology Campus. His session was thoughtfully aligned with the objectives of the event, focusing on student growth, career development, and adaptability in an ever-evolving technological landscape. He spoke about the importance of embracing change, continuous learning, and cultivating a growth mindset in technology-related fields. Mr. De Silva highlighted emerging domains such as data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud computing, explaining how these areas are reshaping industries worldwide. He encouraged students to go beyond classroom learning and actively explore opportunities through self-learning, experimentation, research, and participation in professional communities like IEEE. He also emphasized the importance of networking, collaboration, communication skills, leadership, and ethical responsibility, noting that success in the modern world requires a balance of technical expertise and soft skills. The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging through questions and discussions. Mr. De Silva addressed concerns related to career uncertainty, skill development, and industry expectations, offering practical advice and motivational insights drawn from his own experiences. His session left a lasting impression on the audience, inspiring students to think critically about their goals and take proactive steps toward achieving them. Following the guest session, Lumora V1.0 transitioned into a series of outbounding and interactive activities designed to promote collaboration, teamwork, and engagement. These activities provided a relaxed and friendly environment for participants to connect with one another beyond formal discussions. Through team-based challenges and problem-solving tasks, students developed communication skills, trust, and leadership qualities while building strong interpersonal connections. The activities created valuable opportunities for new members to interact with senior members, fostering mentorship and friendship. At the conclusion of the segment, a winner was selected based on creativity, teamwork, and active participation, and a small gift was presented as a token of appreciation reinforcing the chapter’s culture of encouragement and recognition. Lumora V1.0 witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 45–50 students, representing a diverse mix of new members, senior members, and executive committee representatives. This balanced participation enabled a vibrant exchange of ideas, experiences, and perspectives, strengthening bonds across different batches. Ceremonial elements such as the lighting of the traditional oil lamp and the anniversary cake-cutting added cultural and emotional depth to the event. These symbolic moments represented wisdom, continuity, gratitude, and new beginnings perfectly aligning with the spirit of welcoming a new generation into the IEEE community. The true success of Lumora V1.0 lay in its lasting impact on participants. By the end of the event, students gained clarity about their roles within IEEE, felt genuinely welcomed and valued, built meaningful connections, and developed a stronger sense of belonging. They left with increased motivation, clearer academic and career perspectives, new friendships, and a renewed desire to actively contribute to future IEEE initiatives. In conclusion, Lumora V1.0 stood as a powerful symbol of unity, growth, and purpose within the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC. More than a celebration, it was a transformative experience that strengthened community bonds, inspired ambition, and reinforced the chapter’s vision for the future. As the chapter continues its journey, the spirit of Lumora V1.0 will remain a guiding force reminding every member that when passion meets purpose, extraordinary journeys begin.
