Description

The IEEE Student Branch of the Open University of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group of the Open University of Sri Lanka, successfully organized an interactive “Hands-On with IoT” session during the OUSL Open Day 2025, held on 4th and 5th April 2025 at the premises of The Open University of Sri Lanka. The primary objective of the event was to provide visitors with practical exposure to Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and demonstrate how smart systems operate in real-world applications. The session featured live demonstrations, interactive IoT projects, and guided explanations conducted by IEEE student members. Participants, including school students, university aspirants, and parents, actively engaged with IoT setups such as sensor-based systems, smart automation models, and microcontroller applications. The hands-on experience allowed attendees to understand the fundamentals of IoT, embedded systems, and their growing importance in modern engineering and technology. The event attracted a large number of Open Day visitors across both days, creating awareness about IEEE, its technical activities, and the opportunities available through IEEE Student Branch membership. It also highlighted the role of WIE in encouraging diversity and empowering women in STEM fields. This initiative successfully showcased the innovative spirit of IEEE OUSL and strengthened its commitment to inspiring future engineers and technology enthusiasts through practical learning experiences.
