Project 'Parithyaga' - Flood Relief Donation Initiative

January 8, 2026 · 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM @ Peradeniya, Near Gymnasium,

Description

Project Parithyaga was a humanitarian relief initiative organized by the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter, University of Peradeniya , with financial support from the IEEE Sri Lanka Section . Following the impact of Cyclone DITWAH, the University of Peradeniya was affected, with one of the student hostels experiencing flooding that caused damage to students’ personal belongings and essential items. To ensure that assistance was provided to the most affected students, the organizing team conducted a needs assessment survey to identify those impacted and to collect information on the essential items required. Rather than distributing funds directly, the team adopted a needs-based approach by purchasing specific items requested by students, including water bottles, books, stationery supplies, bedsheets, pillowcases, slippers, and other daily essentials. The items were purchased using funds received from the IEEE Sri Lanka Section along with additional personal contributions from members. The project was executed in multiple phases, including procurement of items, preparation of personalized relief packages, and direct distribution to affected students. Through this initiative, the chapter demonstrated responsible fund management, community solidarity, and IEEE’s commitment to humanitarian service.
