Description
FYP ARENA 2025 Event Details Date: 14 th December 2025 Time: 9 AM – 5 PM Venue: University of Ruhuna IEEE FYP Arena 2025 Showcases Undergraduate Engineering Excellence at ReXtro 2025 The IEEE Sri Lanka section successfully organized IEEE FYP Arena 2025, a national-level Final Year Project competition, on 14 th December 2025 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. The event was held in parallel with ReXtro 2025, the Silver Jubilee Engineering Exhibition, which celebrated 25 years of engineering excellence at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, showcasing innovation, research, and technological advancement. The competition provided a platform for final year undergraduate students from universities across Sri Lanka to showcase innovative and application-oriented engineering projects. Projects were presented under five technical tracks, and the event highlighted solutions addressing real world challenges across diverse engineering domains. Track Highlights and Winning Projects are as follows. Biomedical Engineering : Projects focused on non-invasive diagnostics, rehabilitation technologies, medical image analysis, and smart wearable healthcare devices. The winning project, “Designing a Non-Invasive Decision Support System for the Detection of Varicose Veins” , was presented by an undergraduates from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. Power and Energy : This track featured projects on power system protection, inverter design, renewable energy integration, and asset condition monitoring. The winning project, “Software Tool to Optimally Design External Lightning Protection Systems” , from the University of Moratuwa , demonstrated a practical approach to improving electrical safety. Electronics, Robotics, and Automation : Projects addressed autonomous systems, advanced control strategies, and intelligent sensing and automation. The winning project, “Development of a Hybrid VTOL UAV and Implementation of a Model Reference Adaptive Controller” , from the University of Ruhuna , showcased innovation in aerial robotics and adaptive control. Communication, Signal Processing, and Imaging : This track included projects on advanced signal acquisition, wireless communication, semantic communication, and machine learning–based interference mitigation. The winning project, “Real-Time Acquisition of Chromatic Derivatives for Signal Processing and Machine Learning Applications” , was presented by a team from the University of Moratuwa . Information Technology and Computer Science : Projects emphasized artificial intelligence, computer vision, smart systems, and human–computer interaction. The winning project, “A Multimodal AI System for Detecting and Predicting the Freshness and Ripeness of Produce” , from the University of Ruhuna , demonstrated impactful AI-driven solutions. IEEE FYP Arena 2025 enabled participants to engage with IEEE professionals and academics, receive constructive feedback, and gain national level exposure. By hosting the competition alongside ReXtro 2025, the IEEE Sri Lanka Section enhanced outreach and visibility while inspiring students and the wider community. The event reflected IEEE’S commitment to empowering young engineers and advancing technology for societal advancement.
