PLCFI'26 - A PLC Workshop
February 28, 2026 · 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM @ Main, Colombo, No. 80 Nawam Mawatha, Colombo 00200
Description
PLCFI was a fully physical five-hour workshop organized by the IEEE Student Branch of Curtin University Colombo, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Robotics (SLIR). The event was held on 27th February 2026 at Curtin University Colombo (LT201), from 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM, and attracted 80+ undergraduate students from universities across Sri Lanka. The workshop was structured into two sessions. The first session covered the theoretical foundations of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), including core concepts, system architecture, and ladder logic programming, delivered by experienced lecturers from SLIR. The second session featured hands-on demonstrations of PLC-based projects, allowing participants to observe real-world industrial automation applications. The event was sponsored by Schneider Electric and promoted through IEEE CUC's Instagram, LinkedIn, and university WhatsApp groups. PLCFI successfully bridged the gap between academic learning and industrial application, equipping engineering undergraduates with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly automated world.
