Introducing IEEE PES to the Future Engineers of Intake 42
July 8, 2025 · 5:30 AM - 6:15 PM @ Rathmalana, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University,
Description
The committee members of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) organized an awareness session for the junior intake (Intake 42) with the aim of introducing them to IEEE and the opportunities available through IEEE PES. During the session, the committee provided an overview of IEEE as the world’s largest technical professional organization and highlighted the role of the IEEE PES in advancing innovation in power and energy systems. The students were introduced to the benefits of becoming IEEE members, including opportunities for professional development, technical knowledge sharing, networking, leadership experience, and participation in conferences, competitions, and workshops organized locally and internationally. The committee also shared information about the activities conducted by the IEEE PES KDU Student Branch Chapter and encouraged the juniors to actively engage in upcoming events and initiatives. The session created an interactive platform for students to learn about the IEEE community and how it supports their academic and professional growth in the field of electrical and electronic engineering. To make the session more engaging and interactive, a small quiz game was conducted using Blooket based on basic electrical engineering concepts. The activity allowed students to test their knowledge while learning in a fun and competitive environment. At the end of the quiz, the top three participants who secured the highest scores were awarded small gifts as a token of appreciation for their enthusiasm and performance. Overall, the session successfully introduced Intake 42 to IEEE PES and motivated them to become active members of the IEEE community while fostering interest in the power and energy field.
