LUMORA ’26 was successfully organized as the Annual Gathering of the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group of the IEEE Student Branch of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University on 24th March 2026 , from 2.30 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. , at FMSH 6-2 . The event was conducted to strengthen the connection among current members, past Executive Committee members, and newly joined undergraduates, while fostering a sense of unity, leadership, and belonging within the WIE community. The event served as a formal platform to welcome the new intake and encourage their active engagement with the Affinity Group. It also provided an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the contributions of both former and current members who have continuously supported the growth and success of IEEE WIE KDU. Through this initiative, the Affinity Group aimed to promote the core values of empowerment, diversity, inclusion, and professional development among female undergraduates in engineering and technology. The programme commenced with the arrival of participants, followed by the inauguration and an introduction to IEEE WIE. The event featured inspiring addresses by the Advisor, Ms. Dharani Abeysinghe , and the Counsellor, Ms. Mihiri Sirisuriya , who shared valuable perspectives on leadership, innovation, and the importance of building a supportive environment for women in STEM fields. Interactive games and quizzes were incorporated into the programme to encourage participation, teamwork, and engagement among attendees. In addition, the Past Members Sharing Session provided a meaningful opportunity for knowledge exchange, allowing former leaders to share their experiences and insights with the current membership. The event concluded with the recognition of game winners, a refreshment session, and the closing vote of thanks. Overall, LUMORA ’26 was a well-coordinated and impactful gathering that successfully strengthened the spirit of sisterhood, celebrated the achievements of the Affinity Group, and reinforced the mission of IEEE WIE within the university community.
