Overview On March 31, 2026, the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura hosted a membership development initiative tailored for the new undergraduates of the Faculty of Computing. This session was designed to introduce students to the global IEEE network and the specific professional advantages available to them within the computing field. The event saw an impressive turnout of approximately 200 participants. Key Activities • IEEE Foundations: The session opened with an in-depth look at IEEE’s global mission, purpose, and its various organizational layers, from international levels down to the local student branch. • Chapter & Group Spotlights: Students were introduced to the diverse IEEE technical chapters and affinity groups active within the university, providing a roadmap for specialized involvement. • Interactive Engagement: To reinforce the information shared, an interactive quiz was conducted. This session successfully fostered an enthusiastic atmosphere and encouraged students to engage directly with the material. • Recognition: The program concluded with the distribution of prizes to quiz winners, celebrating the active involvement of the computing undergraduates. Event Impact The program effectively raised awareness and encouraged the 200 attendees to explore membership, laying the groundwork for their future academic and professional journeys within the IEEE community.
